Reproductions of lithographs from the  Kunstformen der natur  "Artforms of Nature” published in Berlin 1787.  Ernst Heinrich Philipp August Haeckel (1834-1919) was a , was an eminent German biologist, naturalist, philosopher, physician, professor and artist. Ernst Haeckel named thousands of new species (see below), mapped a genealogical tree relating all life forms, and coined many terms in biology, including phylum, phylogeny, ecology and the kingdom Protista (details below).
